McKayla Rose Maroney (also known as "Mack Air Maroney") is an American well-known gymnast. She took home gold medals with her US Olympic gymnastics team and a silver individual medal in the Summer Olympic Games in 2012. Her parents are involved in sports, which prompted her to take up gymnastics at an early age. She is one of the few athletes to have been successful in defending a gold medal in the vaulting, an event that she won in the 2011 World Championships, and later in the 2013 Championship. It was not a pleasant experience to get the silver medal for vaulting at the 2012 Olympics and wanted another go for gold at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
